Created, Designed, and Empowered
Created, designed and empowered was the theme for this years VBS. When I consider the magnitude of those three words in light of what God has done for me, I am humbled and amazed at the same time.
Paul writes to the church at Ephesus these words, “For you are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared ahead of time for us to do” (CSB).
As we consider the words of Paul, let’s consider three key truths:
First, we are God’s workmanship. The word “workmanship” denotes a work of art or a masterpiece. Thus, believers are God’s work of art; we are God’s masterpiece. Why? Salvation did not come from man but from God. God created us by giving us new life spiritually and that new life comes only through Christ. God’s masterpiece! Gods work of art! Wow, wow, wow!
Next, we were designed for a purpose. Our purpose is to do good works. The Bible is clear, salvation does not come by works but by faith alone, through grace alone, in Christ alone. Yet, we are saved for good works and these good works were prepared for us in advance of each of our lives. These are God ordained good works designed for our good and for the glory of God!
Finally, we are to walk in the works God has prepared for us to do. A path of good works has been prepared for all believers. The works and the path both are good and we are to make good works the course of our lives. And lest we forget, our ability to accomplish good works God has given each of us, comes directly from the One who created and designed us-God. We are empowered with the indwelling Spirt of God!
Believer, we are God’s work of art. God has a plan and a purpose for our lives. Allow the Spirit to work in and through you as you seek to do the works God has prepared for you to do.
In Christ,
